Trippity trip trip. I am cracking up and relating to this on so many levels. I also just shared that infographic with 4 different friends, because it is so depressingly accurate. When my husband points out that I have forgotten something for the kids, I want to point out all of the things I didn't forget.

We went to France for 2 weeks in June and it was (in part) magical - truly - which is really saying something with a 7 and 4-year-old in tow. When we returned home, I also took my older daughter to a water park (torture for me, amazing for her). Since then, whenever anyone asks what she has done this summer, if she has traveled, etc., she says, "Oh, I went to Water World. It's the best." Umm, what about Paris? The Eiffel Tower? The pastries? Staying in a castle? Nope. The dirty water park wins.

This made me laugh, Darcy, because OF COURSE the dirty water park wins! For what it's worth, this fellow mom is impressed and inspired that you managed a mostly magical trip to Europe with two young kids. Well done!

“Emotional regulation: This is the big one—and, probably, the most draining. When everyone is overtired, overheated, overstimulated, and just generally OVER it, guess who’s trying to soothe, placate, and keep a smile on her face? It is exhausting being the designated emotional regulation system for the entire family (while trying to keep it together yourself). “

This has been my whole summer.

This was hilarious. Love the French phrase your son remembered 😅 This was hilarious and relatable and sounds like a great trip. Definitely a good one, but definitely a trip 😉

Oh Jessica, this was equal parts excellent and painful -- and the whole Mom/Dad breakdown pretty much enrages me. (And at the same time that I am resentful over being the frontal lobe 100% of the time, I can't seem to cede being the frontal lobe? What the hell?)

I am glad there were some highs to your trip (yes, a TRIP) and that, at the very, very least, you got some good food and a good newsletter post out of it 😊

I'm with you--once you're the frontal lobe, it's hard (impossible?) to relinquish.

Oh I feel this on so many levels. While our family trip (I think that is such a great distinction between trip and vacation and I may need to use that now) was wonderful and we saw many amazing things (which I'm still planning to write about in the next few weeks), it is still an exhausting exercise.
