I'm a devotee of Sarah Miller and immediately log on to my library and request every book she recommends (it helps that our children are similar in age). Now I feel like I know her more and just wish we were friends in real life. So happy to find you, Jessica, through Sarah and love this interview. I'm excited to read more of what you write. Oh, and a Yale grad here so a bit jealous you are in New Haven!

Enjoyed reading this a lot, and not just because I've gotten to meet with the two of you over the past few weeks. The interview was instructive, candid and it made me think, which is all you can ask for in this format. I especially appreciated the parts about staying away from the classics and the balance challenges you face.

And best of all, it gave me an idea for a possible future post. My mom was a first grade teacher who became certified in reading recovery for the last decade of her career. Our house was filled with children's books for longer than I can remember.

Love this interview! Great questions, Jessica (and what a fun idea with the lightning round!) Sarah, love your answers and while reading this, I had to change tabs a zillion times to look up all these great recommendations! I loved your honesty about how you manage balancing your work and family. That was very instructive for me, and that's awesome that you saw your own mom do this well.

Also, Piranesi keeps showing up in "Favorite Book of the Year" lists from people I admire! Sigh, maybe I should be brave and try it 😉

Piranesi isn't nearly as intimidating as it looks! I read it in one sitting. Once you lean into it and accept that you're not going to understand everything from page 1, it's fast-paced and pretty gripping.
