Thank you Jessica. I've been thinking more and more about the overlap in the way we think about work and family. How we can bring to our family some of the structured ways we use at work to clarify our mission, goals, tools (although that might feel contrived!). And the (possibly more neglected) way around: bringing to our work life some of the things we use at home to create a safe / nurturing / fun (or whatever) environment.
Jessica, this is brilliant! I love that you took the time to supply a list and definitions of values, too. I love how you apply this concept to both work and the family; the overlap of leadership skills you talk about is really powerful and needs more attention. I'm going to keep this article handy for when helping parents figure out what they're trying to do! This is really great.
Also, aww, thanks for the shoutout! I'm glad they liked the activities! The relay was the favorite in our house, and we, too, had lots of curling equipment go missing 😉
Speaking to the bourbon tasting article -- I just started Jessica Lahey's new book, The Addiction Inoculation, last night. I'm only 1/3 of the way in but it should be required reading for any parent with kids ages 0-25.
The premise of the book is that there are many things we can do to help protect our kids from addiction. For those of us with family histories that include substance abuse (and those of us with the double-whammy of having married into those families), it's deadly important information to have.
If it wouldn't be terrifying to give this book to expectant mothers I'd be wrapping this one up for every baby shower... 😂
Evaluating our values is such a key component of making family decisions

Ooh that sounds good! The title itself is great point, ha!

I’ll check out the book as long as it doesn’t come after me about my technology or sugar addiction…those get a pass, right? 😬
It's limited to alcohol and drugs so I think you're okay 😊
